Pregnancy
First Trimester
September 7, 2023
Pregnancy is a whirlwind of emotions and excitement, and it doesn't mean you have to hit pause on your travel plans. Whether you're planning a babymoon, a work trip, or just trying to get away before the baby comes we've got your back with some savvy tips and hacks to make traveling while pregnant a breeze.
First things first, give your doctor a ring or a visit. They know you best and can give the green light for your travel plans. Plus, they'll share must-know health tips for your specific journey.
Aim for the sweet spot – the second trimester. Morning sickness tends to take a hike, and you're not yet rocking the pregnancy waddle. But hey, every bump is unique, so trust your instincts.
Get your packing game strong. Don't forget essentials like prenatal vitamins, water bottles, belly oils and your doc's prescribed goodies. Throw in some snacks because, let's be real, snacking is a lifestyle right now.
Comfort is queen. Opt for loose, breathable outfits and slip into comfy shoes. Compression socks are like a hug for your legs and help keep swelling in check, specially when you are on the plane. I also made sure to pack cute clothes for my bump so I could take some maternity photos while traveling.
Keep your hydration game strong – water, water, and more water! Munch on healthy snacks like nuts and fruits to keep your energy up and those hunger pangs at bay.
Plan for regular pit stops, whether you're road-tripping or jet-setting. Stretch those legs, stroll around, and do some light stretches to keep your body feeling top-notch. Circulation is important for both you and baby so try to get up often during long trips.
One thing I also did while I was traveling and pregnant was get ahead of my baby planning by starting my Villie baby page. It's like a wedding site but for all things baby, from having one place to list multiple baby registries, baby shower updates for everyone, to sharing your entire pregnancy journey with your village all from one place. It's super convenient and in this day and age it's a must because everyone is so spread out. It's also nice to have everything in a website that you own and control, and a safe place to keep your memories.
If flying, nab an aisle seat, I have always been a window person but trust me that aisle seat is a lifesaver. It's a breeze to get up and move without playing human Jenga with your fellow passengers. If you're road tripping, switch drivers if you can or if you are like me, just sit back, relax and do not drive.
Consider travel insurance with pregnancy coverage. We hope for smooth journeys, but peace of mind is worth its weight in gold.
Research local medical facilities at your destination. It's like having a GPS for healthcare – you'll know where to go if you need it.
Your body, your rules. If you need a break, take it. If you're hungry, munch away. And if something feels off, don't hesitate to seek help.
Remember, you're not just traveling; you're creating memories with a little VIP on board. So, kick back, bond with your travel buddies, and soak in these special moments before the baby makes their debut.
Be real with yourself about your limits. Don't overdo it – your health and comfort are VIPs on this adventure.
Lastly, relish this incredible time in your life. Cherish the moments, connect with your travel pals, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
So there you have it, your ultimate guide to traveling while pregnant. With these tips and hacks, you're all set for a fantastic journey, filled with adventure and unforgettable moments. Safe travels! 💕🌍
