Hello 4th of July! With the summer sunshine, family gatherings and long weekend, the 4th of July is the perfect time to do a gender reveal party. Think stars (boy) and stripes (girl) and the ideas are endless. Here are a few ideas to get you started. Let’s go!
Anything BBQ is a winner this weekend. Think burgers and hotdogs, potato salad, mac and cheese, beans and grilled veggies! If you want to go fancy, here’s some more inspiration.
Delegate grilling and set up a DIY toppings station. You can do the classics like tomato, lettuce, onions, relish, mayo, ketchup and mustard. Or, try out some fancy toppings like different cheeses (american, swiss, pepperjack), sriracha mayo (just mix the two together!) or bbq sauce.
Load up on the classic sides like baked beans, potato and macaroni salads. Don’t crush yourself on this, you can buy it pre-made at the store.

If you want to take the 4th of July gender reveal theme to the next level, some ideas are:
This one is almost too easy. Here are some of our favorite decor ideas you can find at Amazon. They ship real fast and are: foil curtains, garland, serving gear, and windmills. For party favors go for beads, sunglasses or sparklers.
Everyone loves a quick, cheesy gender reveal game (right?)
Make sure everyone has played your Villie Gender Reveal Game and you add it to the invite with a QR code. Put a friend in charge to ask around and get more votes.
Not heard of this? It’s a very fun way to get your family involved in your pregnancy in a helpful way. Your friends and family bid some $$ to guess if you’re having a boy or a girl. Use that money as part of your baby fund to buy all the goodies from your registry! The best part is that since the game is online, you can invite everyone to play even if they can't make your actual gender reveal party.
Ready to amp up the competition? This baby shower version of the classic Family Feud board game is lots of fun! This is the best if your family loves a good game night and winning. Make sure you have a good facilitator/MC!
Who will do more blah, mom or dad? Get it? This is a fun one, but this specific game gives you the ‘both’ option, which at Villie we like. Maybe when we have the time to make our own we’ll add a GRANDMA option too! Until then - here’s our pick.
Now for the main event. Here are some of our faves:
Take your local guidance into account here! If you go this route, check out our gender reveal safety tips and gender reveals gone wrong. You can find (or pick out from a box) the color you want.
This puts some pizazz on the party. Our favorite one is a smoke-free cardboard ‘smoke’ blaster and is filled with a biodegradable cornstarch powder. Don’t be dumb - use this outside. Buy it on Amazon.
Nothing involves guests more than eating! Call your local baker, or make your own cupcakes or cake. Just be sure the blue or red frosting is hidden until you take a bite, and kept away from partygoers until you’re ready for the reveal! Want more? Check out our gender reveal desserts round up.
Here’s a cute 4th of July - themed topper if you go DIY.
Choose whatever pinata you want - this is a cool one - and fill it with candy coordinated with the gender of your baby!
Do you have two silly brothers? Or friends? That’s all you need here (plus a pool and some red/blue swim apparel).
So there you go! We give you permission to make your 4th of July gathering all about you and your baby. And remember, we want to see it! Do you want to be featured and/or have tips to share with other Villie families? Tag us on Instagram or Tiktok.
